5 Tips to Avoid Safety Razor Burn
Razor burn is that burning sensation experienced after a shave, which accompanies the appearance of redness. This inconvenience occurs in men with very dry skin, or who do not shave properly, or those who do not use the right products for their face. Today, we take a look at 5 effective ways to avoid safety razor burn, and keep skin hydrated at the same time.
Prepare your skin for shaving: essential!
All the gestures towards your skin are important, even (especially!) Before going to the actual shaving. This is why it is important to clean your face properly, in order to eliminate the impurities that could get lodged in the micro cuts.
In addition, we strongly recommend using a moisturizing gel, or even pre-shave oil, to soften your skin and prepare it for the razor: this will make it suppler and make you suffer less!
Use the right products
Here we have two tips for you:
To reduce razor burn, it is better to avoid manual razors, and if this is not possible, change the blades very regularly. Indeed, a poorly handled razor or dull blades cause an irregular shave which irritates the skin. Sometimes, in case of hypersensitive skin, a razor with a single blade is recommended, which cuts the hair at the level of the skin and not below it.
It is essential to use a quality shaving soap or shaving
cream. Shaving soap is a good investment if shaving hurts you, as it works well
for dry and sensitive skin. You must also choose the shaving cream / gel
according to the nature of your skin, and if possible without elements harmful
to the balance of the epidermis (alcohol, parabens, titanium oxide, etc.)
Adopt the right movements
As with any daily practice, there are things you can do to reduce razor burn: hold the razor firmly with one hand, with the other tending to the skin of the face. The gesture, flexible, must cover a measurement between 2.5 and 7cm, depending on the parts of the face that we are taking care of. We will start by sliding the blade in a downward movement (right side, left side, chin and neck) then we will reverse (upward movement).
Avoid for your aftershave
When choosing your aftershave, avoid all products that contain alcohol. This is present in many aftershaves because it is a powerful antiseptic, which cauterizes the micro cuts caused by the blades. But in case of sensitive skin prone to razor burn, it will especially strongly irritate the epidermis and aggravate the itching sensation.
Adopt a suitable aftershave
It is better to favor an aftershave containing moisturizing, antiseptic and healing ingredients. For that, we turn to the following natural oils: - Hemp oil → rich in omega-3 and omega-6, this oil provides softness and elasticity to the skin, making it less sensitive to the blades.
Argan oil: recognized for its nourishing properties, argan oil helps fight against skin diseases and itching.
Tea tree oil: Used to treat acne, it is particularly effective against inflammation and calms the skin after shaving.
Patchouli oil: it treats cutaneous parasitosis, that is to say it soothes surface inflammations on the skin and relaxes the face.
We can also use treatments containing aloe Vera and witch hazel, two plants useful in skin disorders, with vasoconstrictor and moisturizing properties.
Thanks to these tips, you should be able to adopt the right actions and choose the right products which, in the long term, will allow you to strengthen your skin and reduce or even eliminate the side effects of shaving, such as razor burn. !
